Sorting Rocks

It’s that time of year again – moving time! One day we’ll find a place that works out for more than a year. But for now, I have to sift through clothes, books, domestic wares and all the etcetera associated with living to see what’s worth shlepping with me again.
This weekend I found myself in the rather ridiculous activity of sorting rocks. Not fancy rocks that might actually be considered valuable, no, but crap I picked up because it was ‘interesting’. (In my defense, they really are interesting – some of them even have fossils!) And this I find is a theme. It has come down to what, of the flotsam I have collected, will be useful to me; and moving time is usually a time of increased artistic output because hey, if I ain’t gonna use it, it’s getting tossed.
So it was with the assemblages above. What to do with mouldering dried things? Put them inside other things! I would like to add as an aside that the butterflies were humanely preserved – I picked them up in their final flutters, and waited until nature had taken it’s course to pin them.
